North Branch Park River WECA presentation and community meeting
August 25, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
North Branch Park River
WECA presentation and community meeting
8pm, Tuesday evening, August 25th
Urban-wild conditions along the North Branch Park River will be reviewed in a 25-minute presentation, which will be followed by an open discussion with neighbors to explore 21st century strategies to conserve and revitalize nature in our city.
Damage caused by Hurricane Isaias highlight how the climate crisis is increasing the disruptive impacts and frequency of severe storms. However, forests, wetlands, and floodplains along urban-suburban waterways, such as the North Branch Park River, (or “hog” river) provide multiple environmental benefits that are valuable to public health and community resiliency.
This image and data-rich presentation will include planning determinants along the riparian corridor, such as past red-lined districts, and allowances for commuter parking lots within floodplains. The presenter, Mary Pelletier will also share the New England Landscape Futures ‘Explorer’ tool, which encourages communities to envision and initiate natural resource conservation of ecosystem service benefits. Neighbors, artists, parents, tree-huggers and cyclists throughout the West End, Asylum Hill, and Blue Hills are all welcome and encouraged to attend.
