The West End is taking part in a celebration of the winter Solstice with a Luminary event on Thursday, December 21st, 2023 to light up our neighborhood in unison and bring some joy and beauty to the holiday season.

WECA is offering 8 free luminaries (each luminary consists of a bag and tea light) to the first 50 members who register for our Solstice Luminaries event kit on our website.  If you’re able to do so, we’re asking for donations of non-perishable food items in return for the luminaries – they can be dropped off when you collect the luminaries.

Details

  • Set up your luminaries on Thursday, 21st December and light them as close to sunset as possible. Sunset is at 4:23pm, but we will call an unofficial start time of 4:30pm, or whenever is most convenient for you.  The goal is to have the luminaries burning in unison throughout the West End.
  • Fold the bags over 1″ at the top and add some sand, small rocks or similar to weigh them down.
  • Place them 3 to 6 feet apart on a hard surface (sidewalk edge, driveway) and make sure they are not beside or underneath anything flammable.
  • Make sure you extinguish them properly at the end of the night.
  • Send us any photos or post them on the WECA Facebook page.

Registration is now closed. Please enjoy the event and come back for more photos! Thank you to all who registered.
